Final Reflection

) Read through your blog from this semester. Recall all of the experiences you've had a long the way -- the highs, the lows -- the fun moments, and the moments of drudgery, and even the moments of dread.
My high was getting in a rhythm and being able to express myself in a class and not have to take exams or quizzes.

Lows were some of the very tedious work of having to comment and post all the time.

The fun times was doing the interviews with my friends.

and the bad times was making the deadline in time.

2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing?
My favorite, joyous and memorable experience was when I was doing my comments and blog post from Disney World. It was a great time. The experience that I am most proud of will be when I finish the class and I am able to say that I have completed ent3003

3) At the beginning of the semester, I mentioned that I wanted each of you to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. And we repeated the mantra -- I am an entrepreneur. Now, at the end, do you see yourself as an entrepreneur? Do you think you have moved closer to developing an entrepreneurial mindset?
I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset. This class has just helped to see that anything could be possible.

4) What is the one recommendation you would make to the students who are going to journey down this path in the future? What would you recommend they do to perform best in this course? What would you recommend they do to foster that mindset?

The mindset and advice I would give is to be very diligent with this class.
You should always try and do your work ahead of time and you should create new friends and relationships as much as possible with people on your level, people that would benefit from you, and people you can benefit from.

Week 5 reading reflection

Micro financing is proven to work and been in my opinion the most influential form, well the within the most influential forms of business in america. I was the most surprised reading the story about micro financing in villages and within women. I do not disagree with anything the author wrote I was more pleasantly surprised if that. If I had a few questions for the author I would asking his opinions in micro financing and if he had more info on Saryamma. Nothing on the readign was confusing to ,e

very shrt interview with an entrepreneur part 2

My question were first of all pre planned. I got most of the questions from the post and instructions. With this I feel like this semester changed me as a whole. I have stretched myself to do things I have not done before. At the the end of this semester I know that I have a different mindset that I have applied to my interview with my boss Megan Lane.

My first question was was this what you wanted to do as a kid?

She said that as a child she wanted to be a police officer. She also, went on that as a child she as wanted to help people as a whole.

My second question was, What would you do if you didn't have this school?

She said that she feels like with the work that both her and her mother have put into opening up the school was well worth and hopes that she creates a new culture in education with year round schooling.

My last question was what were the biggest barriers to entry for opening the school?

She said that the largest barrier was getting the licensing and funding for the school.

As I said before I realize that the questions from before where not really thoughtful and that is why I didn't get as thoughtful as a response from the last time then I did this time. Also, I felt very comfortable with this interview only because I have been working there for a while. Also, I am closer threw this person and have been telling them about how tough it has been threw out the semester for me.

week 13 reading

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
The pricing  formula is has alot of small moving parts.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The pricing formula.

3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
How much does emotional bias of the seller really play? And shouldn't decisions of calculated risk be based on the numbers? I ask because shouldn't business and emtions be separated.
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?

No I did not alot of it was confusing and I really did not get the information.

Celebrating Faliure

So my biggest failure/success which is still in the making is my intermediate economics class. On top of the fact that I am putting alot of effort into my business finance class. I am not able to understand the material so easily. I tried my best to study for the first exam and failed miserably. But I had faith, I have always had a hopeful mindset on coming back from failure. My dad always told me that a setback is a setup for a comeback and even if you fail you can try again. This class has thought me how to think critically of failure to find a whole in every system where you can fit. Currently I took my second exam. Studied harder and ended up with a 75 which is better. I am looking forward to work hard for the final. I know that with this mindset I can conquer any challenge.

Exit Strategy

I would sell for a large return. I picked this strategy because of the industry my business would be in and that is the app industry. The decisions I have made will cause large short term growth. Eventually there will be copycats and or similar apps that will begin to appear on the market. I believe my decision will help me identify future opportunity through looking for a specific need in a certain industry.

Whats next

What is next for the smart shop app. Well through my interviews I see that I need improve my app for an older generation with more product development I will be able to touch this market. Also, with my other interview I need to get those obsessed couponers that would rather use this app that to coupon their selves. Also, I have learned threw the amazon whisper that I am able to respond to any critiques and improve my idea will make me successful.

Looking forward after making these improvement our main concern would be advertising and promotion. Smartshop will grow into the future and it will be successful. It will be the most used app in a grocery store ever.

Week 12 Reading

Reading this chapter was very interesting. One of the most confusing things to me was learning that Entrepreneurship involves SWOT analysis. I have always been under the impression that that was a marketing term. Also, the most shocking thing to me was learning that formal planning can involve informal and formal manners. Moreover, the author was not wrong but rather surprising. If I was to ask anything to the author I would ask if participation by subordinates in planning appropriate and if so what were his experiences like?

2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The man part that was confusing was how much time is actually invested in each one and how to successfully measure trade offs.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
How would I be able to know where exactly I am lacking in terms of trade offs? Because I feel that I wouldn't be able to find these things personally. And is crowd sourcing always the best solution? because I feel when it comes to certain tech or medical solutions the experts know best.
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
No I agree with everything the author speaks on.

The Amazon Whisper

  • Describe the revenue drivers you currently include in your business concept for this class. Revenue drivers are the different ways you make money.  Well for my app I hope to have a subscription base. On top of that I will have revenue from app advertisers and coupon advertisers who want there coupons to be used primarily over others.
  • Describe what kind of product offering you believe should be next. What's the next thing your customers want?  I am thinking either app improvement or a different app that applies these discount before purchase is made just to give more reason for the consumer to use it.

  • Describe how this "next" thing will enhance your existing product/service offering. Does it improve the user experience, does it increase customer switching costs, does it foster customer loyalty, etc.? Yes because improving on speed and customer satisfaction always brings customers.
  • What are the customer reviews for the product? What, exactly, do customers not like about the product? What do they like about it? That basically it is done and a lot of stores wont approve its use.
  • Describe what design/usability changes you'd make to the product. Speed and better customer service. Also, being able to market the app properly.
  • Describe why you think this product would make a good addition to your current product/service offering. Improvements are always a good thing.

Week 10 Reading

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
Of how many economic principles and accounting principle that go into the decision making process.

the differences between certain principles and where exactly do these numbers come from.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
How I would get these numbers from a firm you want to venture into? because some of this is very private info.  also if it is a start up and you want to see a similar companies numbers ? because this is private info and companies don't want competition.
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How? I agree with everything that is said but I also believe that with this methodology with further practice that person will be successful.

Elevator Pitch 3

What stood out to me most was a comment that said to add maybe recipes and different components to take it all the way from the grocery store to the dinner plates at your house. Also, what I found was another piece of good advice was to make it sound natural. So I think I made it more natural and spoke more from the top of my head with a idea instead of word for word what I was going to say.

Week 9 Reading

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations? How many things affected the pricing decision and creating a efficient price which also competes.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The Pricing Decision
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
How to establish a Pricing decision? What is an efficient way of finding efficient areas of marketing.
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
No I agree with everything even though it is a bit confusing. It is a little confusing thinking into these ideas of creating efficient market plans and advertising your product well.

Whats your secret sauce?

1) Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique. What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list.
What makes me difference between other companies is a passion to continue no matter what. Also, even though I would enter a very heavily crowded mark I would still be able to adjust and create opportunity through the big pro
fit margin in the organic industry. Also, with a surge in demand for organic supermarkets we can create more demand for the app by adding in specials and information on seasonal fruits and veggies that are on sale.
2) Interview the five people who know you the best.
Very short interview about me. She is a good friend of mine and she believe that I am a good leader.
Chris is a very close friend. He believes that I can rally a group towards success.
Ishan believes that I am selfless and able to rally a team. With this he believes that I make everyone better.
Taken from another phone because mine died. But melody believe that I have great leadership abilities
.Haliey describes me as a dedicated young professional and wants to be just like me. Thank you for reading and watching.

3) Reflect on the differences.
I believe that the way I perceive myself is how people see is exactly how I want to be perceived and try and be perceived because I do try and be great. I really work hard to achieve what I presue.

Idea Napkin 2

You. My name is Fernando Perez and I am a food and resource economics major. Based on some of the feed back I received I would like to revamp my idea into a whole new one.
2) What are you offering to customers? What I would like to do is create an electronic shopping list that gives you the best deals in prices like no other. Creating formulas and working coupons together to get the best deal on groceries possible.
3) Who are you offering it to? My customers are very broad. They all enjoy to shop and save money which is everyone.
4) Why do they care? Because people love to pay for convience and they love ot save money. With a small nomial subscpition they will see that it will pay for it self.
5) What are your core competencies
My core competencies are putting the consumer first. Showing them that there are people who are look out for them and their families by saving money.
I believe in these five things because I love to help people, this is something I actually have had to study on. I also believe save time is better than save money and when you can accomplish both is when you can be successful.

I changed most of my idea by instead of them going out and using these tactics they would be able to scan these items and pick them up at a local supermarket. The feed back I mostly got was there were similar apps on the market so I decide to make it better.

Week 8 reading

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
What stood out to me was the fact that there where so many ways on how to finance your company.

2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The different points of where equity funding can come from is the most confusing to me.

3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
How to find the fast growing markets? I would ask him because I would gear my plan to these fast growing markets. I would also ask that at what point is better to equity finance then to get a loan?
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
No I do not. I feel that I am learning a lot from the author and able to apply these ideas to my ideas.

Half way Reflection

1) Tenaciousness is a skill. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
I feel that one of the behavior that I have used was being able to space out all of the work in a way to create a daily task instead of doing everything a once.

2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
I felt like giving up on some assignments when I had to speak to strangers. I still feel very uncomfortable speaking with strangers but I am getting better over time. Even though I pick and choose the assignment I will try my best to complete everything the next half of the class.

3) Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
Do everything as soon as possible.
Get out of your comfort zone
and try and create many small ideas and develop them.

Week 7 Reading Reflection

The most surprising thing to me was how the market segment is separated by so many things based on peoples, age, demographic, what people like and don't. Also, how anything can be considered a market segment if enough people like it, which introduces markets. Next, the most confusing part to me is the categorizing and strategy of marketing. Therefore if I was able to ask the author any questions I would ask him how a specific strategy looks like and how it influences. There I disagree with the author

Elevator Pitch 2

This is my first pitch but I tried to take into consideration the comments and videos of other people that I saw. I mad sure that I created a pitch on the basis on what people would want and made sure it was easy, descriptive, and convenient. I believe there is room for improvement but as the idea continues than I would be able to be more descriptive and more resourceful.

Week 6 Reading

       Porters Five Forces

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
I have seen this video and read this article before so there was not any surprises. Also, we I have study porters five forces in two of my previous classes.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
How to apply these ideologies in a small start up.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
I would ask them to show me how to apply these business ideas to my idea.
I would also ask how those compare to other marketing and price point strategies such as the Four C's or Four P's
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
No I do not. I believe that Porters Five Forces really has defined what a real market analysis really does in tail.

Interviewing Customers 3

I did not due the other interviewing customers so this is the first one I did. I learned that certain consumers are more responsible than other. I learned from my interviews that about 2/5 people have a grocery list and the average young person waste about 20-60 dollars a week. As we can tell we will be able to create a larger and more consumer oriented list if I were outside of a grocery store where we can get people to sample the product or get test results from this type of consumer testing.

Idea Napkin 1

My name is Fernando Perez and I am offering the product of a lifetime. An app that will create a grocery list that will create a shopping list for you and give you the best deal in town based on your preferences and what you like to eat. You will be able to pick and chose what you want on this list based on your budget and it will give you choices based on the price and quality of the product. As a food and resource economic major what we want to create is a larger demand for a product or certain products and to get more people in a grocery store. We notice that when a person goes food shopping they are just grabbing things off the shelf that they do not really need. In stead with this app we will be able to create list based on budget and help save consumer money. This app will be offered to two different market segments. They will be offered to normal food shoppers who go to grocery stores to get there food. Also, this will be offered to grocery stores to be able to create online inventories to replace newspapers and coupons threw the app saving them money on marketing and advertising. I believe people will care because people are lazy and cheap. This app will save them money and time at the super market. I believe nobody has been able to create this Idea to a point that is very user friendly. I believe that with the right group of people we will be able to revolutionize the industry with this great idea. These pieces fit like a glove. I know the industry, I know the consumer, I am a consumer. I know that if I had something like this I will be able to save alot of time and money. Also, I would be adding components and making it even better.

Week 5 Reading

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
I read a lot of different entrepreneurial articles and different social media accounts which explain a bunch of these concepts and this chapter just put it even deeper in my head that all the steps need to be properly ordered and back up plans need to be in place.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The only confusing part would not be in the reading but in the application. Where would I be able to tell when and where these issues in my start-up would begin.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
I would ask him about how he fells about financing a venture early and why? I would ask him this because I fell like that is a big key to failure of a lot of small businesses.
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
No I do not only because of the face that this is a common plan of do's and dont's when starting a new venture.

Week 4 Reading Reflection

The biggest surprise for me was the learning aspect of each side of the brain. It was very interesting to me how the right side is good for a specific creative skills and the left is for logical skills. The most confusing part of the reading was understanding the diagrams. Also if I was to disagree with the author I would disagree with the logic behind the diagrams. I believe that their use of psychological is not understanding to me. Finally if I had to ask the author two questions I would ask how to equally strengthen both sides of the brains and what is the effect of not having two strong sides of the brain.

Top 5 World Problems

My Top 5 Serious Problems

Problem 1. - Not enough clean water in the world. A solution would be to instill universal cleaning programs for all.
Problem 2- Technology is becoming increasingly powerful. The human face to events is diminishing. A solution that I would offer is to slow down production and reemphasize human values.
Problem 3- American debt is becoming absurd. If there is no way to control this the balance of power of the world can be then thrown of by reducing the American leading role. A solution that I think can help is more american production of things so outsourcing would be less of an issue and then hopefully work as some type of chain reaction.
Problem 4- American are eating to much and the world is eating to little. A solution would be to make food an international benefactor.
Problem 5- The modern ways of Americans are becoming so much that the generations are suffering less family values are being instilled in american and are apparent abroad. A solution is to have more family time.

My most implementable to least implementable solutions are..

1. A solution to less family values are to spend more time together to learn the values.
2. A solution to technology advancements are to slow down modern production.
3. A solution to American debt is to implement more homeland products to reduce outsourcing.
4. A solution to dirty drinking water would be to establish universal cleaning programs.
5. A solution to poverty is to make food international.

I choose drinking water as a main international issue because everyone needs healthy water to live.
Also, I choose my solution to family values as the easiest to implement because compares to my other top 5 problems this is the less abstract.

Identifying Local Opportunities

The Gainesville Sun:Rally to protect Paynes Prairie

http://fieldguide.blogs.gainesville.com/755/rally-to-protect-paynes-prairie/?tc=ar

This story is information to a public rally for the protection of Paynes Prairie. Which occurred on Saturday in Downtown Gainesville.

The main problem is that the govern is trying to privatize state parks to become more self sustainable. While this does sound like a good idea on paper. The effects will be those in that we will destroy our state parks by leasing out the land to timber farmers, hunters, and for cattle grazing causing overall harm to the park.

The people who are mainly concerned are the Protect Paynes Prairie group. They are a self made group that arose from the proposal of the state government.

Path to curb domestic violence: The Florida Times- Union

http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2016-01-23/story/path-curb-domestic-violence-homicides-scrutinized-many-skip-court

This story is about the many people who do not take domestic violence rehablitation programs seriously and end up hurting or killing there loved one's because they are repeat offenders.

The problem is that the laws in place for misdemeanor domestic problems are not heavily enforced or created to be enforced so heavily. So, because of this offenders do not take them seriously and continue on their path of destruction and abuse.

This concerns everyone because of the importance of making sure your loved one is safe and that people are properly rehabilitated.

Alachua County Commission votes to move toward civil citation for pot: Gainesville Sun

http://www.gainesville.com/article/20160119/ARTICLES/160119626/1150/news01?p=3&tc=pg

This article is mainly about creating a citation rule for having small amounts of pot instead of arresting the person.

The problem is that most cause that occur with pot are mostly younger people who enjoy using the drug and in some states are legal to use for conventional use. So instead of arresting said person they would just give them a citation.

The people who are concerned are the police and young people because it creates a less hostile environment. When you are driving a car and get pulled over for not wearing your seat belt, you know that you are just going to get a ticket and not be arrested. But, if you knew you were going to be arrested you would probably run because there is a lot more risk involve making the situation dangerous.

Women cops hope to arrest sexist behavior in GPD

http://www.gainesville.com/article/20160123/ARTICLES/160129860?tc=cr

This article is about the mistreatment of the four female GPD LTs. After interviews and different sexual harassment cases, the GPD is finally cracking down on sexist behavior.

The problem is that women in the GPD are being mistreated because they are women in a supposed "mans job."

The people who are concerned are the internal affairs for the GPD and the cops and employees themselves.

Blues Creek residents push back on sewer line proposal

http://www.gainesville.com/article/20160122/ARTICLES/160129873/1002/news01?Title=Blues-Creek-residents-push-back-on-sewer-line-proposal

This article is about a sewer company wanting to put sewer lines threw a conservation area in the neighborhood.

The problem is that the residents want there land to be preserve in its condition. Also, there was an agreement made between city officials to preserve this wetland back in 1988. But, the water management staff in Gainesville and other city officials feel like its a good idea to install utilities underneath the creek.

The people who are concerned are Blues Creek residents which do not want this to happen and New Generation Home Builders’ who are planning on making this happen.
